Container Transport and Delivery

Delivery and pick-up costs are dependant on where the container is to be delivered and the method of delivery. We will provide you with a transport cost before you place your order.

Usually your container can be delivered within 24 hours of payment however this is subject to availability, any modifications or accessories that you require and transport company schedules. We will discuss the delivery time/date with you when you place your order.

Important issues that you will need to think about are:

Door Direction

The container can be loaded on the truck at the depot with the doors facing either to the cab or the rear of the vehicle. It is vital to the correct delivery on site that the container is placed correctly on the truck.

Site Surface

Ideally, the container should sit on a flat and level surface to ensure that the doors will open properly and prevent container damage. Another option is to place the container on railway sleepers or a concrete pad.  Railway sleepers are available from many local hardware and timber suppliers.

Site Checks

If you are unsure whether you have enough space or a safe site to unload a container, please ask your United Containers sales representative if they can do a site check of your property.  Please note that there will be a charge for non-local site checks.

Safety Issues

The delivery site must be free of obstructions such as overhanging branches and power/telephone lines.  Please contact Vector Power if you think you will need your powerlines disconnected.

Delivery Logistics

Container Trucks can be reversed or drive forwards onto your property but can only be offloaded from the drivers side of the truck.

There are two different types of delivery vehicle that can be used to transport and unload a container at your site. The chosen delivery method depends on your specific location and the ease of access etc. We will ensure that you choose the method that is best suited to your site.

Swinglift

The container is offloaded from the truck by lifting the ends and lowering it into position next to the truck. A side loader is particularly useful in deliveries where there is limited space or with heavy loads.  To estimate the room required to unload with a swinglift there must be twice the width of the container available to allow for the truck and container.

Hiab Lift

A Hiab is a truck that has a lifting crane attached. This is the best method for delivering containers that have limited access to where the container is required e.g. A shipping container can be positioned on the other side of a fence or across a ditch.
